Two or three top-offs often exceed the one-time cost of finding and fixing the leak — and the compressor damage rides along free. What an honest leak visit looks like

  1. Verify the low charge with gauges — superheat/subcooling readings, not guesswork.
  2. Find the leak: electronic detection, nitrogen pressure test, dye, or bubble test depending on the suspect area.
  3. Show you the location and quote the repair — joint re-braze, line repair, or coil replacement — alongside the top-off option with its real long-term cost.
  4. Repair, evacuate, and weigh in the charge to factory spec. Weighing beats "adding till the numbers look right."
